The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation – EPFO works under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. EPCO assists in administering Provident Fund Scheme, Pension Scheme, and an Insurance Scheme for the workers work in the organized sector in India. On 1 October 2014, Narendra Modi launched Universal Account Number for Employees covered by EPFO to enable PF number portability. An organization with more than 20 employees has to register with EPFO. All the employees earning a salary of up to Rs. 15000 has to join the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). UAN is a Universal Account Number. EPFO issues a 12-digit unique number called UAN to all employees covered under EPFP. UAN is very important as all process related to EPF has become online. With UAN it’s easy and convenient to use services like withdrawal, checking EPF balance without the help of employer and PF loan application. With UAN you can have access to various options and facilities on EPFO Portal. The UAN number is the same throughout life irrespective of the number of job switches. When an employee switches a job a new Identification number is allotted by EPFO ID is created which is linked to UAN Number. An employee can have a different ID but the UAM number remains the same. Every time a new ID is allotted it is linked with unique UAN Number.
How to Generate UAN
The employer generates UAN. The employer will generate a UAN Number as yo join the service sector. If you already have a UAN number you can provide that number to employer or else employer will generate for you. The process is very simple and easy.
- Login to EPF Employer Portal. Click here to log in.
- Enter the Establishment ID and password.
- In the portal click on the Member section.
- Select Register Individual in Member section.
- Enter all the details of employees like PAN, Aadhar number, Bank details, etc.
- EPFO generates UAN after approval.
- Provident Fund can be linked with a unique UAN number.
UAN Number Activation / UAN Registration
EPF UAN Number Activation is a mandatory process to avail of all the features of the EPFO portal. It is a hassle-free and easy process. to activate UAN number employees need to know their UAN number. Let’s take the process step by step.
Steps to EPF UAN Registration & Activation:
Probably if you already have the UAN Number details, you can click on the link above which takes you to the image like below.
For UAN Registration & Activation users have to select Activate UAN from the Right-hand section. The link takes you to the page as shown in the below image:
As shown in the image, fill all the information. You have a choice to either enter UAN number, Member Id, Pan number, or Aadhar Number. In the next section, you have to enter your personal details like Name, Date of birth, contact details such as mobile number, email ID. Click on the Get Authorization Pin after entering all the details.
As soon as you click on the Get Authorization Pin employee will receive OTP on the mobile number registered with EPFO. In the next step. you will have to enter the OTP received and Accept the disclaimer checkbox. After that click on Validate OTP and Activate UAN.
In the next step, you will receive Password details on your registered mobile number. A window will open to confirm the same as shown n the below image:
Employees can use the password received on Mobile number to login to the EPFO portal and use all the features. Employees do have a choice to change the password received on mobile number. They can have a password of their own choice.
